YOU ARE YOUR CHILD'S BEST ADVOCATE. We can't emphasize that enough. So many times we have listened to the doctors and educators and thought, "well, they are the experts". And they are but no one knows your child like you do and if it doesn't make sense or just seems wrong, you are the only person who can stand up and question things.
But you don't have to stand alone. There are organizations and others like your therapists who can help voice your concerns or wishes. Below is a link to an advocacy group in Washington State that can help you.
What can they help you with?
Appeals and Letter writing
Attorney representation if appeals are exhuasted
Special Education Partners
Help navigate the IEP (Individualized Education Program)
Help insure children have the educational access they need
This link is to the Washington Autism Advocacy organization. When you feel your child's rights are not being upheld, this is an appropriate resource to use.
FYI - One area to think about is Trust and Guardianship for your child. If you select the Resources link at this website and then select Financial Planners, Guardianship... from the services query screen, you can find some providers. We all need to plan for the future.
